Summary of DaCCA III Programme intervention
Introduction
The DaCCA Programme focuses on strengthening climate resilience for smallholder farmers as a strategy to alleviate poverty in rural communities of the Lake Victoria Basin.
Its objective is to strengthen the climate change resilience of poor smallholder farming communities in the Lake Victoria Basin
Anticipated outcomes
Outcome 1 Local government authorities integrate community-based climate change adaptation priorities in local policies, plans and budgets and are responsive to the communities.
Outcome 2 Civil society organizations, community groups and community representative bodies are strengthened to claim and exercise their rights to participation in local planning and budgeting processes.
Outcome 3 Climate change adaptation capabilities of communities of poor smallholder farmers are strengthened in targeted locations.
It supports the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals: 1 ‘No Poverty’, 2 ‘Zero Hunger’, 13 ‘Climate Action’, 16 ‘Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions’ and 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals
The outputs of outcome 3 are:
3.1 Targeted smallholder farmer groups have adopted agroecological practices and are linked to a relevant network
3.2 Information about agroecological practices is cascaded to agricultural extension workers and other community members
The activities that have been planned under Outcome 3 with the targeted smallholder farmers have been categorized under the following broad activity areas:
- Integrated soil fertility management
- Soil and water conservation
- Agroforestry
- Good agronomic practices
- Integrated pest and disease management
- Link the small holder famer groups to relevant partners for support and collaboration
